Parent Champions

Did you know that around 80% of the difference in how well children do at school is dependent upon what happens outside of school?!

Parents really do make THE difference, but they don't realise how how important they are in their child's education and learning .. By becoming a Parent Champion, you can help us pass this message on.

Become a Parent Champion volunteer

A parent champion is a parent just like you. They volunteer a small amount of time as part of their everyday routine to tell other parents about local childcare, other family services and share activity ideas for children. As a parent, you can chat more informally, share information and your own positive experience of using local services.

When it comes to finding out about what is going on locally, parents are often the best people to help. You come across parents everywhere in your everyday life such as playgrounds, parks and supermarkets. You already have these informal conversations with parents so why not become a parent champion and be able to boost your skills and add it to your CV.

Full training is provided and our staff are always available to support you.  If you are interesting in finding out more, contact us.

The video below shows parent champions in other regions, who explain how they are transforming their communities.

Story Explorer leaders

We have a really exciting new group called Story Explorers which has been running with great success in Liscard primary school. The difference to other groups is that we train and support parent volunteers to deliver these groups to other parents, with a focus on parents and children reading & story-sharing together.

It's been so successful that we trained more parents in Rock Ferry, Woodslee and Town Lane Primary Schools.

If you are interested in running a group with another parent in your school, we give full training (with a creche) and there's lots of support and encouragement from both FYT and the nursery staff, so if you hear of this opportunity in your nursery, you can either be trained to deliver groups, or just to come along and join in the group with your child.
